The Oregon State Society Daughters of the American Revolution began with the formation of the Multnomah Chapter in Portland by Mrs. Mary Phelps Montgomery in 1896. In 1996 OSSDAR celebrated the centennial anniversary of the state society. There are now 35 chapters in Oregon with over 1600 members.

Built by Lima Locomotive Works in 1923, it was designed to climb steep grades (up to 12 %) making it Ideal for logging railroads. It was orginally built as a stock engine for Shay dealer Hofius Steel & Equipment of Seattle. She was sold in 1928 to Mount Emily Lumber Co, where she worked the next 30 yrs on the 40 mile loggin Railroad which includes a 7 1/2 % grade on the mainline

The Oregon and Washington Society was organized June 6, 1891, at Portland, Oregon, mainly through the efforts of General Thomas M. Anderson, then Colonel of the 14th Infantry stationed at Vancouver Barracks. There were fifteen charter members.
