The Society was established in 1971 as the Mid-Valley Genealogical Society. The name was changed to the Benton County Genealogical Society in 1996.

The purpose of this page is to point out the unique river bridges in Portland, Oregon. Many of Portland's bridges were built in the first decades of the twentieth century, and they are not only of historic value but a few of them are also very beautiful.
Bridges for both the Willamette River and the Columbia River are included in this page. Within you will find over 45 different photos of the Portland bridges.

In 1842, the wagon trains of hardy pioneers set out for the fertile Willamette Valley of Oregon. With fortitude and courage, this venture would take over two months before they would see a trading post. Between 1841 and 1869, nearly 300,000 Americans made the 2,000 mile journey west. Many died along the way. What they accomplished made history.
